Give a Computer

Computer Donation & Scholarship Program

With the help of the community, our Occupational Training Institute students are able to take donations of computers, refurbish them and give them to needy district students. The program relies on student interns to evaluate and refurbish the computers. This provides the student interns with valuable work experience in computer hardware and software technical support and customer service skills.

The students always reformat the hard drive to insure that all data is erased before the system is passed on to the students. Then Microsoft Windows 98se or 2000 is installed. To make this program work, we have to make sure that the computers that we receive meet our minimum specifications.

The systems must meet these requirements:
PC Desktop and Laptop Computers must be a 350 MHz Pentium II or higher or have comparable Pentium-compatible CPU.

Please note: Apple Computers are not accepted.

Software Specifications
Due to software licensing requirements, the only way you can donate software is to donate the actual software and licensing key. Software that is more than three years old is not accepted.

When we receive a system we erase the hard drive and remove all of the software. We then must install an operating system and application software. We will be installing Windows '98 or 2000 operating system software on all PC systems. We cannot provide Microsoft Office software unless it is donated. For systems without MS Office, we install Open Office, a MS Office-like shareware product.

CompTechS and the students really appreciate your donations and understanding that only systems that meet our specifications are usable.

Thank you for your interest!
