Foothill Student Josh at Rambus Internship |
FFoothill College’s Science Learning Institute (SLI) Continues its Successful
Internship Partnership with Rambus
Last year, Foothill College’s Science Learning Institute (SLI) internship program, which places first generation, low-income students in their first STEM internship, welcomed Rambus a semiconductor company with its headquarters in Silicon Valley, as a new corporate partner. The student interns received hands-on experience in engineering and computer science, while Rambus gained the opportunity to invest in the development of local talent from diverse backgrounds, and employees at Rambus who served as mentors got support on work projects.
Ricardo Diaz, a Foothill College computer science who transferred to UC Santa Cruz this past fall and for whom this was his first ever internship, commented in his final survey for the program that the internship helped reduce his imposter syndrome and gave him confidence in his technical abilities. Through this internship Ricardo’s interest in working with computer hardware has increased and given him the experience necessary to secure future technical internships.
Josh Germain, current Foothill College student in electrical engineering shared, “Thanks to my internship at Rambus, I was able to get invaluable experience. [My mentors] Max Mu, Davy Pang, Richard Park and more were there to answer any questions I had and ensured I was able to complete my projects. I am now able to confidently say that my code is being used to develop real products.”
This successful partnership between SLI and Rambus will continue this summer. Thank you, Rambus! If your organization is interested in partnering with SLI to offer internships, please contact Sophia Kim, SLI Director, at kimsophia@fhda.edu.
