Josh and Liliana Rosales

Josh and Liliana - A dynamic duo at Foothill, then UCLA and now in life.

Foothill alums Liliana Rosales (née Guillen) and Josh Rosales have a lot going on these days. From getting married, buying and renovating a house, and starting a family, to earning master's degrees and promotions, they are quite busy. However, according to them, none of what's going on in their lives now would have happened without Foothill College.

Coaches change lives, and Jim Linthicum was no exception. Coach Linthicum, affectionately known as "JL," was an anchor at De Anza from the time the college opened in 1967 to his retirement in 2004. JL started teaching at Foothill in 1965 before moving to De Anza as part of the inaugural staff. He taught physical education, coached football and tennis, and then coached track and cross country for 34 years.

Short "Amazing things can happen from being at Foothill," said alumnus Bill Yee, who credits Foothill College with giving him the opportunity for a successful career in the technology sector and an early retirement. Bill, the son of Chinese immigrants, grew up in East Palo Alto, and was the first in his family to attend college. Bill worked five days a week while attending Foothill because his family could not afford to put him through school.
